Before we learn the steps to set up FileZilla with GoDaddy hosting, we should first understand what FileZilla is.
What is FileZilla?
FileZilla is an open-source software program used to download and upload files to a web server. You can manage website files via your hosting provider as well. However, the main purpose of using FileZilla is convenience. You can manage all of a website’s files on your desktop. You can run simultaneous downloads and uploads up to a limit of 10, which saves time. Furthermore, you can manage multiple websites in one place.
1. Install FileZilla
FileZilla is open-source software that is available free of charge. It offers both Windows and Mac versions.
- Download software from its official website.
- Install it as per the instructions.
2. Open the Site Manager
Once installed, perform the following steps:
- Open FileZilla.
- Click on the very first icon, “File Manager,” on the top-left corner.
3. Add your Site
Once you click on File Manager, a new window will pop up.
- Click the “New Site” button at the bottom to add your site.
Once you click the “New site” button, a placeholder titled “New Website” will appear under the “My Sites” folder.
- Rename the “New Site” placeholder to your website name.
4. Enter GoDaddy Credentials
On the right side of the pop-up screen, you need to enter the following information:
a. Host (i.e., IP address)
b. Port
c. cPanel Username
d. cPanel Password
All the above four details are fetched from your GoDaddy Hosting account.
- Enter the username from the “Account” section of the “Settings” tab on the GoDaddy dashboard.
- Enter the password that you set for your cPanel on GoDaddy hosting.
- Enter the host, i.e., IP address, from the “Server” section of the “Settings” tab on the GoDaddy dashboard.
- The last piece of information that you need to enter is the port number. For GoDaddy, it is 21. Enter the port number in the “Port” field.
5. Connect the Site to the Server
Once all the fields in FileZilla have been completed, perform the following steps:
- Click the “Connect” button at the bottom of the screen.
- Once you click the “Connect” button, you might get the “Unknown certificate” pop-up. Check off the “Always trust this certificate in future sessions” option at the bottom of the pop-up window and click Ok.
Once you click Ok, the next screen will display whether the connection is successful or not.
A. If the connection is successful, it will display the message “TLS connection established” at the top of the screen, and all the hosting files will load on the right side of the screen.
B. If the connection is unsuccessful, it will display the error message at the top of the screen. In this case, double-check the information you entered to make sure you are entering it correctly. If it does not resolve the issue, you should seek help from your hosting provider, GoDaddy.
Finally, you are all set with your FileZilla connection with GoDaddy hosting.
